This 2-day program introduces the student to advanced medical
concepts necessary to effectively manage a wide range of
patients at a HAZMAT incident. Topics include chemistry
of hazardous materials, toxicology, biological and nuclear
incidents.
At the completion of the Advanced Medical Operations at
a HAZMAT program the student will be able to:
1. Recall the principles of HAZMAT toxicology.
2. Understand the significance of Chemical, Biological,
and Nuclear Weapons
3. Describe the different levels of personal protection
equipment.
4. Understand the importance of occupational health, medical
screening, and on-scene care for HAZMAT Teams.
5. List the effects of weather and environmental conditions
on HAZMAT operations.
6. Understand the complexities posed by different physical
locations of HAZMAT operations.
7. Recall the indications and operation of HAZMAT monitoring
equipment.
8. Given a scenario, formulate a plan for EMS operations
at a HAZMAT incident, including specific treatment algorithms.
* EMS providers are encouraged to take the Introduction
to HAZMAT Chemistry prior to taking this program.
